IDLING ALONG AT PLYMOUTHPosted by dillon in dillon welch |

Consistency wins championships.
That knowledge is what keeps me in the right frame of mind after a ho-hum night at the race track. I ran at Plymouth last night and my car was good, but I never really had a chance to race it.
The Focus cars and the Kenyon's were combined again and I qualified seventh overall at a 12.62 (second fastest Kenyon), which bettered my previous qualifying time there which was a goal we had set. The top six qualifiers were inverted for the feature, and I was two hundredths of a second from starting on the pole in the feature. Instead, I would start seventh.
The heat race was good. I got a great start twice and would've had the lead both times but yellows came out causing us to restart. On the third green flag I came out in second, went to pass for the lead, touched wheels with the leader, fell back to fourth, and ended up third at the finish.
Still, I felt really good about my car for the feature but starting seventh definitely has its challenges. Focus points leader Joe Liguori started in front of me in fifth and I was planning on trying to stay on his bumper because I knew he would be going to the front. Unfortunately Tyler Cottongim slipped down in front of me and then a yellow came out. So Joe and I were separated and I was left to fend for myself. Meanwhile Grant Galloway (who I am battling with for the points lead) was up toward the front after starting third. It's hard enough for Kenyon's to pass another Kenyon, let alone a Focus car that has 60 more horsepower than we do, so I was basically stuck in seventh. I was trying to pass a car and trying to hold off another one at the same time, so I still had fun but it was disappointing because I was running laps as fast as Grant, but I was just never able to get up and challenge him.
There are pros and cons to the Kenyons and Focus cars racing together but this was definitely not one of the Series' better shows. I think there was one pass on the track the entire race.
Regardless, I finished second in the Kenyon division and still lead the championship by more than 100 points. I must admit though, more than the championship, I just want to race and that wasn't really racing last night.
So, with that said my next outing is Wednesday at Illiana which is a track I haven't run very often but I really enjoy. Can't wait to get there.
Thanks for reading!
