ONE BIG STEP TOWARD THE TITLE

Posted by dillon in news

Saturday night's victory at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Illinois didn't deliver Dillon Welch the Kenyon Midget Series championship, but it came close.

With two races remaining on the series schedule, Welch has a nearly insurmountable advantage.

"Disaster would need to strike," Dillon said this week. "But I've seen some crazy things happen in racing so I'm not taking anything for granted."

That changed Saturday when the 15 year old racer posted the fastest Kenyon qualifying time, won the Heat race, and cruised to the Feature win.

"We had run well at the other flat tracks, but just hadn't gotten the win," Welch said after taking the checkered flag.  "This proves that we can win on any type of track."

The victory was the sixth of the season for the Carmel High School sophomore, and stretched his series advantage to 131 points.  Welch has not lost more than 29 points in any given race this season.

"All season I've focused on each race, one at a time," Dillon said when told of his points advantage.   "That's not changing now.  I'm focusing on winning the next race."

And that next race is Sunday August 30th.
