WHERE HAS THE SUMMER GONE?

Posted by dillon in dillon welch

Man this season has gone fast!  I can't believe I've only got one more race left this season.  I ran my next to last race this past Sunday on a surprisingly cool afternoon at Anderson Speedway.

We had another good turnout in terms of support in the grandstands.  A lot of friends and family came to the track, and I really appreciate it.

We've had a lot of success at Anderson Speedway this season, winning five times, but in our constant efforts to improve, Mel Kenyon tried something different with the setup.

I qualified third overall at a 12.68 but first among the Kenyon group.  It was the ninth time this season I've qualified as the fastest K-car.  The feel of the car wasn't completely comfortable but it wasn't bad.

In the Heat race, I started from the pole and led from start to finish.  Again, the handling wasn't exactly as I'd like it but it was good enough.

When it came time for the Feature, Mel and I settled on a setup decision that we would come to regret.  I started fourth and found out rather quickly that I was going to be dealing with an extremely loose race car.  We had put a camera on the top of the roll cage at the beginning of the day and at one point in the Feature, I was going through turns 1-2 and the camera was looking at turns 3 and 4.  Anyways,  I fell back to sixth place (second among the K-cars) which was where I would finish, and while I kept the lead pack in sight the whole race, I wasn't able to get up and challenge them.  I backed my pace down about half way through the race to keep from crashing and also to try to conserve what was left of my tires, and apparently I saved them enough because I held off a hard-charging Focus car the last three laps. So, in the end, I was the second place car in the Kenyon division.

Unfortunately, I have a long break until my next race--October 3rd--which is my last race of the season.  Don't ask me why we have a month off before running the last event of the season because I don't know...that's just the way it's been. I definitely wish I was racing at least once during the month of September, but I'm not, so I'll spend my time focusing on schoolwork, guitar, and working out.

Finally, I get asked a lot about the points championship, and I'm happy to say it is looking good.  I'll say more about that on Oct 3rd!

Thanks for reading!
