WINNING FEELS SO GOODPosted by dillon in dillon welch |

Win number two feels even better than win number one!
The past couple of blogs have been a bit depressing, but thankfully this one will not be discussing anything like what you've read recently.
Due to the fact that I blew up in Berlin, a new motor was obviously required for the car. The motor that blew up was an Ed Pink Ford, and the new motor was an Esslinger Ford. The Esslinger turns more RPM's and is little bit faster than the Pink. So needless to say, I was excited to get things going. Practice went well and I felt like I learned a lot about how different the Esslinger is from the Pink. I won the heat race from the pole and was very confident headed into the feature.
If you've ever participated in something competitively, you may have experienced the feeling that I had before the feature started. It was one of those things where I just knew I was going to win. Looking back on it now is easy to say, but I had a strong sense of confidence that I was going to be able to win the race. I started the race from fourth spot and as we came out of turn four to get the green flag, the two front row cars touched wheels and the contact slowed them both down a little bit. I jumped to the outside of them to make it three-wide going into turn one. The pole car and I split the second place car and I was in second when we came out of turn two. I still don't know how it happened because it wasn't a plan I had, it was just my reaction to what was happening. Regardless, it was the move of the race because it put me in position to track down the leader. I passed the leader on lap 7 and held off the rest of the pack to get my second USAC Regional Midget win. I had to endure a number of restarts, and that is where the extra giddy-up of the Esslinger motor came in handy. I was able to get on the gas and have a good advantage headed into turn one and that played a big role in how the feature played out.Once again, the Dillon Welch Fan Club was back in full force on Wednesday night. A record crowd--I think we had more than 60 people-- helped cheer me on all night, and I have to thank everyone who came out and supported me.
My next race is this coming Wednesday at the Speedrome. It's the last race at the Speedrome this year and the last time I will be relatively close to home so if you want to see me run, this would be a great opportunity to do so!
Thanks for checking in!
