HONORED TO BE HONORED

Posted by dillon in dillon welch

The 2008 DK Promotions banquet was held last night for the USAC Kenyon Midgets, Ford Focus, and Regional Midgets.  I enjoyed seeing everyone again and took home some nice hardware.

My dad and I each got fourth place trophies, an improvement from 10th place a year ago.  Dad's trophy was for owner points and mine for driver points.  We also each got a check which was nice.

I was also awarded the "2008 Kenyon Midget Most Improved Driver" trophy. I definitely felt like I had improved this year, and what's amazing is that I felt like we were actually better than our results indicated.  It made me feel good that my improvement was recognized by others.

The biggest surprise of the night for me was being named winner of the inagural "P.A.S.S." award.   This award was presented by George and Sherry who minister to the series' during the season.  PASS stands for Positive Attitude Sensational Spirit.  A recipient was chosen from each series and they were all voted on by our fellow drivers.  Travis Young and Kyle Hamilton were the winners in the other series' and that is some pretty good company. My mental attitude is something I've worked hard to improve over the last few years and receiving the PASS award meant alot to me.  It made it even more meaningful that my fellow competitors voted on it, and that it was presented by two people I respect so much.

Thanks to Don and Mel Kenyon (I can't thank them enough), along with everyone else who helps out at our DK Promotions races, USAC, all of my sponsors, and of course my family for everything they do to make it possible for me to race.   I cannot wait until 2009!!!  It will not come soon enough and I am very confident that we'll have a lot to talk about in these blogs!

By the way, on November 1 I was inducted into the Mini Indy Quarter Midget Hall of Fame.  I was given a very nice plaque as I shared the stage with other inductees Garrett Abrams, Katie Hargitt, Dustin Hueston, and Wes McIntyre.  I want to thank the club members at Mini Indy, and especially Carla Baber and Tim Walker who head up the Hall of Fame program.  It was a special night for me.
