THE SEASON'S OVER--BUMMER!

Posted by dillon in dillon welch

Unfortunately, the offseason has begun! The Kenyon cars ran for the final time of 2008 this past weekend at Anderson Speedway.    I qualified second fastest, just three-hundredths behind Jeff Wimmenauer.  I finished 3rd in my Heat race, but the car felt good so I was encouraged about our chances in the Feature.   For the Feature, due to the 6-car invert, our team was handed a 5th place starting position which is not a good spot for a track like Anderson  where it is very difficult to pass.  That's one thing that I think USAC should reconsider for next year.  Because our cars are so similar, passing is very difficult, which almost makes it punishment to qualify fast and have to start so deep in the field.   If we're going to do qualifying, there should be some reward for being fast.  Anyway...I was running 5th in the Feature when a yellow came out with three laps to go.  As it went green, Jeff Wimmenauer and I touched wheels and I had to save it big time.  Unfortunately it opened the door for Drew Charlson to get around me and I ended up sixth.  It was a dissapointing end to our season, and I felt that our season was summed up right there in that re-start.  It seems we have been in the wrong place at the wrong time a lot this year.  It's been very frustrating but what can you do?  I think that's one of the improvements I've made this year is dealing with the frustration that often comes with racing.  It hasn't been easy but I know it's what I have to do become the best driver I can be.  You can't change what's already happened so I try to put it behind me and focus forward.   Well, what's ahead now is the off-season and I'll be looking forward to maybe running some indoor races, or even doing some karting before the weather turns cold.  Thanks for checking in...thats all for now!
