WILD ONE AT ANDERSONPosted by dillonuser in dillon welch |

Because of time, there was no qualifying and we just ran heat and feature races. In the first round of heat races, I started 5th and finished fourth right on the bumper of Sammy Imel, the 2006 Kenyon midget runner up who was also running a regional midget that night.
Starting eigth in the the first feature, I wound up finishing 6th with a very loose race car. It was a disappointment for sure. Not that sixth is bad in the feature, but I think we're better than that.
After a short intermission, we were back to racing. This round, again due to the lack of time, we only ran the feature. USAC officials decided to invert the top 6 finishers from the previous feature, which put us on the pole. At the start of the race, second place Drew Charlson beat me into turn 1, but there was a yellow and we got to keep the number one spot. From almost the beginning I had a big push. It got to the point to where my hands were on top of each other, on opposite sides of the wheel trying to get the car to turn. As a result, I just couldn't keep it down coming off turn 2 and that opened the door for Drew to get up beside me. I held him off for several laps. He got up alongside me, but I wasn't going to give up without a fight. We ran side-by-side for 4 laps straight! It was so awesome! He eventually got around me when we touched tires. I almost had to stop to keep from driving through the wall.
So, it was a very eventful day at the race track. The second feature was so cool and I thought it was very professional of Drew to race me as clean as he did. I ended up leading 14 of the 20 laps so that was good experience too.
We had a lot of family and friends there and I want to thank averyone for coming out to watch me run! Thanks!!!
